Aluminium & grille welding
Two of our engineers carry a fully fitted welding van — generator, MIG and TIG, gas, grinders, paint. We weld on the kerb when removing the work would cost you more than the repair itself.

What this trade actually means in practice
- Security grille bar replacement & refitting
- Wrought iron gate weld & re-paint
- Aluminium shopfront frame repair
- Roller shutter slat re-shaping
- Decorative ironwork mending
- Balustrade fixing & spindle replacement
- Driveway gate hinge re-welding
- Crash-impact panel repair
- Stainless steel handrail welding
- Steel door frame patching
Three quietly common jobs
1. The grille that has lost a bar
A bar pulls out of a security grille either because the weld at the cross-bar has fatigued or because the bottom socket has rusted. Both fixes are simple weld jobs, but the painting matters as much as the steelwork. We bring zinc-rich primer and a colour-matched topcoat — black is rarely just black.
2. The gate that has dropped
Driveway gates are heavy, and the hinges they're hung on are usually one rung lighter than the gate deserves. After fifteen years of opening at full extension, the hinge weld cracks and the gate drops. We cut the old hinge off, weld a heavier-grade hinge directly to the gate frame, and re-fit the post bracket so the gate hangs square. We can also fit gate stops if the gate has been swinging through the wall.
3. The aluminium shopfront after a delivery van argument
Aluminium shopfronts hate vehicles. After a clip from a reversing van, the frame buckles in a way that ordinary repair work won't undo — but a careful TIG weld and dressing pass usually can. We work behind a screen so customers see only a tidy site, and we will help with a temporary boarding if the damage is bad enough to require an overnight wait.
Welding on someone else's premises is a privilege we take seriously. Fire watch, sparks containment, ventilation, paint cure times — all in the brief, all in the price.
Indicative costs
- Single grille bar replacement & paint: £180–£260.
- Driveway gate hinge re-weld: £290–£420 per hinge.
- Aluminium shopfront localised TIG repair: £420–£860 depending on length of damage.
- Roller shutter slat re-shape (per slat): £75–£120, minimum two slats.
Site preparation
We need 240V power within 25 metres or we will run our own generator. Vehicular access for the welding van is a help; if you're inside a controlled access estate let us know in advance. We carry our own fire-watch sheets and CO2 extinguishers as standard.
